About this Blog and me!

Your either one of my (much loved) sponsors, family, or a creepy stalker! But in either case, you, by virtue of the Internet, have found your way to my humble blog.

First, a bit about myself. My name is Colin, and I am a 9th-grade student at the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School in Buffalo. I’m also my class president, love politics, history and governmental studies. I also want to become a lawyer or become a Foreign Service Officer, and in a few short months, I will be heading to Australia with the People to People Student Ambassador Program!

I was recently interviewed and accepted to participate as a member of the People to People Student Ambassador Program, whose objective is to promote international understanding while building leadership skills among America’s youth. The 20-day experience includes meetings with government officials, interaction with other students my age, educational activities, and home stays with host families.

I am currently seeking financial sponsors to help me with tuition, equipment and charity fundraising, and hope I can count on your support.

In case you haven’t heard of People to People, allow me to share some history with you. President Dwight D. Eisenhower founded the organization in 1956. He believed that if people from different cultures could come together in peace and friendship, so eventually would countries. Since its founding, People to People has launched many international programs, including Sister Cities International and Project HOPE.

People to People Student Ambassadors are carefully interviewed and evaluated before their acceptance and I am honored to have been selected. Personally, I am looking forward to broadening my perspectives of the world and gaining a better understanding of Australian history. Along the way, my fellow delegates and I will snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef and learn about its delicate ecosystem, tour the Sydney Opera House and the halls of the Parliament of Australia, learn hunting techniques from native aboriginals, cuddle with koalas, and so much more.

During my journey, I plan to share my experiences right here on this blog with pictures, video and audio recordings, to bring the life and culture of Australia back home to my community and my readers. As an Ambassador, I can also earn high school and college credit because of the many educational elements in this program.

The program tuition is $8,000, which includes all transportation, accommodations, meals and educational activities. I also will be investing in equipment and service agreements to make this live blog possible, and would like to donate $1,000 to charity. In all, I’m shooting to raise $10,000. So, I am asking 500 contributors to each donate $20 to help me reach my goal.

Any donation is appreciated!

My program tuition is due May 1, so I’ve made it as easy as possible for my sponsors to securely contribute with their credit card through Google Checkout, here.

Please feel free to contact me at friends@fowler-chapman.org if you need more information. Your generous contribution would enable me to share in this wonderful opportunity. Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.

Sincerely yours,

People to People Student Ambassador
